Go Qtown Car Rentals


1. General

These Terms and Conditions govern the rental of vehicles from Go Qtown Car Rentals. By booking or renting a vehicle, the renter agrees to comply with these terms. We reserve the right to refuse a rental if the renter does not meet the required conditions.


2. Driver Eligibility

Drivers must be at least 25 years old and hold a valid driver’s licence.

  • Licences must be in English or accompanied by an International Driving Permit (IDP).
  • Drivers aged 21–24 may rent with an additional daily surcharge.
  • Only drivers listed on the rental agreement are permitted to drive the vehicle.

3. Rental Period

The rental period begins at the agreed pickup date and time and ends upon return.
Late returns may incur additional charges. We reserve the right to charge extra rental fees for overdue returns.


4. Payment & Bond

  • Full payment is required before or at the start of the rental.
  • A security bond will be held on the renter’s credit card.
  • The bond may cover damages, fines, fuel, cleaning, or late return charges.
  • The bond will be released after the vehicle is returned and inspected.

5. Insurance & Excess

All rentals include standard insurance coverage, subject to an excess amount.

Typical excess options:

  • Standard Cover: $2500 excess
  • Medium Cover: $1500 excess
  • Premium Cover: $1000 excess

Insurance may be void if the rental agreement is breached.


6. Vehicle Use Restrictions

Vehicles must not be used:

  • Off-road or on restricted/unsealed roads
  • For racing, towing, or competitions
  • For illegal activities or transporting prohibited goods
  • By unauthorized drivers

Smoking is strictly prohibited. A cleaning fee of up to $150 may apply for excessive dirt or odor.


7. Fuel Policy

Vehicles are supplied with a full tank and must be returned full.
If not, fuel costs plus a $20 refueling fee will apply.


8. Accidents & Damage

In case of an accident or damage:

  • Notify Go Qtown Car Rentals immediately
  • Contact police if required
  • Complete an accident report

Failure to report may void insurance coverage.


9. Traffic Offences & Fines

The renter is responsible for all fines, tolls, and infringements.
An administrative fee of $35 may apply per offence.


10. Vehicle Condition

The vehicle must be returned in the same condition as received, with all keys and accessories.
Any damage not recorded at pickup may be charged to the renter.


11. Cancellation & Refund Policy

11.1 Free Cancellation

Cancel up to 48 hours before pickup for a full refund.

11.2 Late Cancellation

Cancellations within 48 hours incur a fee equal to one day’s rental.

11.3 No-Show Policy

No refund will be provided if the customer:

  • Fails to arrive on time
  • Does not notify delays
  • Does not meet rental requirements

11.4 Early Return

No refunds for unused rental days after pickup.

11.5 Booking Modifications

Changes are subject to availability and may incur additional charges.

11.6 Refund Processing

Refunds are processed within 3–7 business days (bank delays may apply).

11.7 Company Cancellations

If we cannot provide the booked vehicle, customers will receive:

  • A replacement vehicle (if available), or
  • A full refund

11.8 Cancellation Method

All cancellations must be submitted via email or official booking channels and confirmed by us.


12. Liability

Go Qtown Car Rentals is not liable for:

  • Loss of personal belongings
  • Delays due to breakdowns or unforeseen events
  • Indirect or consequential losses

13. Compliance with New Zealand Laws

These Terms are governed by the laws of New Zealand. All disputes fall under New Zealand jurisdiction.

Renters must comply with all applicable laws, including:

  • Land Transport Act 1998
  • Road User Rule 2004
  • Driver Licensing Rule 1999
  • Offences & Penalties Regulations 1999
  • Vehicle Standards Compliance 2002
  • Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency regulations

Driver Responsibilities

Drivers must:

  • Not drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs
  • Follow all road rules and speed limits
  • Ensure all passengers wear seatbelts
  • Meet New Zealand licensing requirements
  • Use approved child restraints where required

Liability for Breaches

The renter is fully responsible for all fines and legal breaches.

Violations may result in:

  1. Immediate termination of rental
  2. Loss of insurance coverage
  3. Full liability for damages and costs
